As anyone who has been following my Instagram has seen, I spent most of last year listening to old music in my iTunes, which didn't really leave a lot of time for new music. Thus, I only have six favorite albums to celebrate 2024 with. I swear I will try to do better next year. As always, Wix is a trash website, so if the formatting looks wonky, trust me, it is killing me. I'm working with ancient technology here.

6) Toro y Moi - Hole Erth
Chaz Bear (aka Toro y Moi) switches up his style on most of his albums. My favorite styles of his have been from his "chillwave" origins or when he is doing moody electronica. On this album however, Chaz has waded into the waters of Emo Rap, and it mostly works. I have favorites on this album, and songs I don't love love, but overall, the beats are still there, and I love a ballad about a stripper like any other Millennial. We saw him play at Salt Shed a month ago, it was great.
Favorite Song: Babydaddy

5) Jamie XX - In Waves
It always blows my mind how quiet The XX are, but the main musical force of that band does solo stuff that is high powered electronic fun. We actually saw half of Jamie XX's set last year at what would become the final Pitchfork Festival before we dipped to go see Unwound. Electronic dance bangers, that's what we have here. Bang they do.
Favorite Song: Baddy on the Floor

4) Charli XCX - Brat
Lol, surprise, I liked Brat just like every other human being on Earth this past year. I don't really even know what to say about the most popular album from last year. Bangers also. So Julia. Apple all over TikTok.
Favorite Song: Von Dutch

3) Nala Sinephro - Endlessness
Endlessness is ten tracks (Continuums 1-10) of spacey ambient jazz. Well actually, it's a little more active than ambient, but it has a lot of room. The cover art is a lounging astronaut, and that is a pretty great representation of what this album is all about. It's Jazz that is floating through space, absorbing the surroundings. I seem to have one new jazz album every year on this list.
Favorite Song: Continuum 2

2) Jpegmafia - I Lay Down My Life For You
Another year, another top notch Jpegmafia album. This album has a more rock-centered set of samples, but it's still the same music that scares my girlfriend.
Favorite Song: Don't Rely on Other Men

1) Public Circuit - Lamb
I heard of this band through the YouTube algorithm, it recommended the closing song, Reach for the Knife. I watched the video and then immediately bought the CD. This album is full of darkwave synths, like dancing in a dark club with a leather jacket on. This album reminds me most of driving down Lake Shore, when my company was still in the Hancock building.
Favorite Song: Bondage
So, that's it, just six albums. But they're six really nice albums, so check them out.
